Focus On Your Strengths First

August 16

We entrepreneurs often try to do it all – but should we?

We all have strengths and weaknesses and feel like we have to conquer our weaknesses – but should we?

Imagine that I supernaturally gift you ten hours of uninterrupted time. Do you spend that time focusing on a strength or a weakness?

As the title of this post indicates, I’m on the side of focusing on your strengths.

Ten hours spent doing what I do well produces great results.  Projects get finished, clients are served, money is made.

Ten hours spent struggling with what I don’t do well will always bring in poorer results.  Projects get postponed, clients are frustrated and money is lost.

There are seasons in our life when we intentionally focus on developing new skills and that’s ok.  There are always new things to learn, but do you need to learn all new things?  Of course not. We can’t possibly be great at everything and even if we can – we shouldn’t!

Name one wildly successful business owner who does everything his or herself… you can’t!  Everyone who operates at a six figure level is outsourcing something.

Focusing On What You Do Best Is Smart.

When you move in your gifts you develop expertise, build momentum, grow in creativity, and win the respect of others.

  • Homework: Take an honest inventory of your skills and gifts, and do the hard work of identifying what you are not good at.
  • Application: Choose to spend the majority of your time operating in your gifts.

Do Focus On Weaknesses That Sabotage Your Strengths.

Some weaknesses aren’t a matter of skill and can’t be cured with an outsourcing decision.  There are issues othat drag us down and sabotage our best efforts. Chronic procrastination, failure to meet deadlines, never finishing anything, not fulfilling your promises… these are weakness that demand your focus so that they can be eradicated once and for all.

  • Homework: Admit a personal weakness that hold you back.
  • Application: Conquer it!

Hold yourself accountable.  If you can’t, ask someone else to help you.  Don’t give up on it.

You have so much potential just waiting to be fulfilled!
