Laura Petrolina, blogging over at Spin Sucks, has spoken to an issue a lot of us struggle with. Managing our schedules and creating boundaries for how we communicate with others.
To quote her:
Communications pros across the board are VERY bad at boundaries. VERY bad.
Some of it is because that’s the nature of our jobs. To respond.
But some of it is because we become addicted to responding—beyond what’s required to do an exceptional job and provide phenomenal client service.
This behavior is bad for our productivity, creativity, mental health, and success.
They use the term ‘Communication pros' a lot over there at Spin Sucks and I think it's a great title to describe so many of us who are in businesses that call for frequent interaction with an audience.
Please go read the whole post if you are struggling to create and stand up for boundaries in your business. Laura is so on target with her advice and when we conquer this issue we boost our focus and that will always have a powerful and positive impact on our business.
